Community Guidelines

The shared ground rules that keep every ChatRandom conversation friendly, safe, and worth coming back to.

Last updated: January 2026

ChatRandom connects you with new people for live video, audio, and text conversations in seconds. That only works when the person on the other side of the screen feels comfortable, so these guidelines spell out what we expect from everyone who joins. They cover the behaviour we love to see, the behaviour that gets accounts removed, and how our team steps in when something goes wrong.

Read them next to our terms of service and Privacy Policy, which set out the full legal agreement. Whether you drop into a single call or spend your evenings in our chat rooms, joining a session means you agree to hold yourself to the standards below.

The spirit of the community

Picture the last time a stranger was kind to you for no reason — held a door, cracked a joke, made a dull moment lighter. That small generosity is exactly the energy that makes this place tick.

At its heart, ChatRandom is somewhere to talk to strangers and actually connect. People arrive curious and a little brave, and the best sessions happen when both sides show up with warmth and good faith.

Almost every rule that follows comes down to one idea: be respectful, be real, and never forget there is a living person behind every camera.

Be real and be yourself

A member once matched with someone whose profile, story, and accent changed three times in five minutes. It was not charming — it was exhausting, and it ended the conversation fast.

This is a space built for grown-ups having honest conversations, so show up as the actual you rather than a character invented to bait, mislead, or manipulate other people. Authenticity is what makes a video chat with strangers feel worth the time.

It also means looking out for the community. If a match seems far too young to be here, do not engage — skip and report them so our team can take a closer look.

What makes a good match

Think about the last chat that left you smiling. Odds are the other person said hello, actually listened, and gave the conversation a real shot.

A great session rarely needs anything fancy. A little courtesy carries most of the weight when you meet someone new through random video chat, and these habits set the tone:

  • Greet the other person, keep your camera and audio clear, and give the chat a genuine chance to warm up.
  • Stay curious and generous — ask questions, listen properly, and leave room for them to talk too.
  • Keep your background and appearance suitable for a mixed, general audience.
  • If the vibe is not clicking, bow out politely; the next match is always a single tap away.

What is never allowed

Someone reported a match who kept re-appearing after being asked to stop, then turned nasty. That is the kind of behaviour these lines exist to shut down.

The following has no place here, in any context. Crossing any of these lines can get your account restricted or permanently removed, and the most serious cases are handed to the authorities:

  • Harassment, bullying, or repeatedly targeting someone who wants to be left alone.
  • Hate speech or slurs aimed at race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, or nationality.
  • Nudity, sexual acts, or other explicit content on camera, in a cam to cam chat, or in text.
  • Anything involving minors — a zero-tolerance line that is escalated straight to law enforcement.
  • Violence, threats, self-harm content, or encouraging anyone to come to harm.
  • Illegal activity, including selling or promoting drugs, weapons, or other unlawful goods.
  • Spam, unsolicited advertising, mass links, or bot-driven activity.
  • Impersonation, scams, phishing, fake giveaways, or requests for money.
  • Sharing another person’s private details — their name, address, socials, workplace, or photos.
  • Recording, screenshotting, or streaming another member without their clear consent.

Consent runs both ways

You know the feeling when a conversation has run its course and one person keeps clinging on. Nobody enjoys being on either end of that.

Every member decides how their chat goes and when it ends. If someone skips you, hangs up, or simply is not interested, take it in stride and move on — no pressure, no guilt-trips, no chasing them onto another app.

The flip side matters just as much: never push anyone to say, do, or show something they have not clearly agreed to. Enthusiastic random video chat only stays fun when nobody feels cornered.

Guard your own privacy

A friendly match asks where you work, then which building, then what time you finish. Individually the questions seem harmless; together they are a map to your front door.

Because your matches are strangers, be deliberate about what you reveal. Keep your full name, home address, workplace, financial details, and ID documents off camera and out of the chat window.

Trust your gut, too. When you talk to strangers and a conversation starts to feel off, skip it — you never owe anyone your personal details or your patience.

How moderation works

Behind the scenes, a single report often connects to signals we are already watching, and the two together tell a clear story.

Our safety team reviews the reports members send, alongside automated flags for likely abuse. Depending on what we find, we may warn an account, suspend it temporarily, or issue a permanent ban, and we remove content that breaks these rules.

When acting quickly protects other people, we may step in with or without notice first. The gravest cases — anything involving minors above all — go directly to the relevant authorities.

How to report and block

The moment a chat turns uncomfortable, you should not have to sit through it to do something about it.

You are our best early-warning system, so if a match crosses a line you can report or block them with a single tap right inside the session. Reports stay confidential, and blocking guarantees that person is never matched with you again.

What happens if you break the rules

Consequences scale with how serious the behaviour is and whether it keeps happening. A minor first slip might earn a warning; repeated problems lead to suspension.

Severe violations — harassment, explicit content, scams, or anything involving minors — result in an immediate, permanent ban, and we cooperate fully with law enforcement wherever the law requires it.

Where to get help
